Your social posts now live on Google

If you’ve searched for a local business on Google lately, you may have noticed something new on their Business Profile a row of social media cards showing their latest Instagram reels, TikToks, or Facebook posts. That’s not a coincidence. It’s the Google Business Profile Social Media Updates feature, and it’s the most meaningful change to local search in 2026.

Translation: your social media account and your Google account are no longer two separate things. What you post on Instagram or TikTok today can now show up on Google tomorrow right next to your phone number, hours, and reviews.

When did this happen?

Google began rolling out the Social Media Updates feature in late 2025 and expanded it in early 2026.
It’s currently visible in select regions and languages and continues to roll out broadly. Many U.S. small
businesses are seeing it active on their profiles right now sometimes without ever having turned it on.

Which platforms Google pulls in

You can link one account from each of the following platforms to your Google Business Profile:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Pinterest
  • TikTok
  • X (Twitter)
  • YouTube

Once linked, Google automatically populates a “Social Media Updates” carousel on your profile with
your most recent posts. You don’t have to do anything for each new post Google syncs them on its
own.

How to add your social media to your Google Business Profile

  1. Sign in to your Google Business Profile (search “my business” on Google while signed in, or go to business.google.com).
  2. Click “Edit profile” → “Contact” → “Social profiles.”
  3. Add the full URL of each social account you want connected one per platform.
  4. Save. Your social cards will start appearing within a few days on supported profiles.
  5. Make sure the social accounts are public, branded, and match the business name listed onGoogle. Mismatches confuse the algorithm.

How to add your social media to your Google Business Profile

Up until now, social media was a separate funnel: post to Instagram, hope your audience comes to you.
With the Social Media Updates carousel, that math changes:

  • Every social post is now a local SEO asset. Your Instagram reel about a Saturday open house canshow up to someone searching “realtor near me” on Google, not on Instagram.
  • Inactive accounts will hurt you. If you link a social profile that hasn’t posted in eight months, Google will display stale content on your business listing. Either link the accounts you actuallymaintain, or commit to posting consistently.
  • Your social aesthetic is now your search aesthetic. Whatever appears on your Instagram grid isgoing to appear next to your phone number on Google. Branded covers, readable thumbnails, and consistent visuals matter more than ever.
  • Short-form video gets a second life. A reel or TikTok that performed average on the original platform can rack up new views from Google searchers a much higher-intent audience.
  • Your social bio is real estate. People who click from Google straight to your Instagram are going to land on your bio first. Make sure it links somewhere useful and matches the brand voice on Google.

What this means for your Google account

On the Google side, this update sends a clear signal: Google now considers social activity part of your
local credibility. That doesn’t mean Instagram likes will rank you higher but it does mean:

  • Active social = more profile real estate. Profiles with recent posts get more visual surface area in search results, which means more clicks.
  • Posting consistency matters across platforms. If your Google Business Profile updates section isempty but your Instagram is active, Google will fill in the gap with your social. If both are dead, you look closed.
  • Reviews and posts still rule. This is an addition, not a replacement. Keep collecting reviews andusing Google’s native Posts feature for offers, events, and updates.

Your 15-minute action plan

  1. Link your active social accounts to your Google Business Profile today.
  2. Unlink any social account you haven’t posted to in 90+ days.
  3. Check what currently shows up on your profile search your business name on Google from aphone in incognito mode.
  4. Set a posting cadence you can actually keep (even 2x/week is enough).
  5. Use the AI video tools from our next blog post to make that cadence painless.
